White Buffalo

This white marble buffalo was carved by Todd Etsate.  He inlaid turquoise eyes and carved horns.  The fur around the shoulders and neck are detailed.  This is a fine buffalo!

Buffalo, or American bison, roamed the plains in the millions from Northern Mexico into Canada before colonization.  Buffalo are sacred to many Native American people.  They provided so much the people needed: food, clothing, leather to line tipis and make parfleches which are beautifully painted rawhide containers, tools, and so much more.  There has been success in recent years to bring the buffalo back to the plains, especially to Native American tribes on the plains.  White buffalo are very sacred to Native Americans and there are prophesies about them that are about the times we live in.
