This universal white buffalo was carved by husband and wife team, Lynn and Jayne Quam. They joined their talents to create this universal white buffalo. Of course the following observations are subjective, but what we see on one side is the moon, star, a curve that could be a shooting star, land, and other elements. On the other side is a Sunface, representing the sun, which is inlaid turquoise and jet, along with eight inlaid dots around the Sunface. The stones inlaid on the other side include chrysocolla, azurite, Mexican onyx, lemon serpentine, abalone, spiny oyster shell, catlinite, and turquoise. Signed "L & J Quam" on the bottom. Superb!

Buffalo, or American bison, roamed the plains in the millions from Northern Mexico into Canada before colonization. Buffalo are sacred to many Native American people. They provided so much the people needed: food, clothing, leather to line tipis and make parfleches which are beautifully painted rawhide containers, tools, and so much more. There has been success in recent years to bring the buffalo back to the plains, especially to Native American tribes on the plains.
