Sun Shines on Sister Quail

Zuni carver Darrin Boone carved this quail from dolomite and inlaid a Sunface on the side.  The Sunface is inlaid Mother of Pearl, jet, turquoise, and red coral.  The beak and topknot are black lip Mother of Pearl and the eyes are turquoise.  The feathers are detailed.

Quail are small peaceful birds that make the sweetest sound of three chirps.  The males and females take excellent care of their young.   They always bring us joy when we see them in the wild with their babies.

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
