Vickie Quandelacy carved these two well fed maidens from turquoise. On one side, the maiden has a black lip mother or pearl necklace with a pink mussel shell and coral pendant, inlaid coral dots, and well carved corn kernel details. The other side, the maiden is holding carved gold lip mother of pearl feathers with a turquoise dot, two engraved stars, and geometric patterns. The are on a base of what could be catlinite, with crushed turquoise on the top of the base. More about corn maidens and corn maiden sisters below.

Corn maidens represent everything good about being a woman: strong, kind, compassionate, nurturing, and powerful. There are many Indigenous stories about how corn was brought to the people at a time when there was hunger, and how a sacred, sometimes other worldly, female being brought them corn. Corn maidens come with a card detailing the meaning, the carver, and the material they are carved from.
Corn maidens with one on each side are sisters or sister friends.
Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal. Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
