Marble Bushytail

Zuni carver, Lance Deysee, carved this white marble bushytail and inlaid lapis eyes.  It is looking up...maybe seeing something special in the sky.  He gave it a tail that swirls around its body, and a truly awesome bundle!  It has a carved turquoise arrowhead, and is wrapped with heishi and turquoise beads, polished off with a sliver of shell and jet on each side.

Wolves, coyotes, and foxes all look the same in the distance.  In Zuni there is a word that translates into "bushytail" in English.  You get to determine what this carving looks like to you!

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
