Michael Laweka carved this graceful water eagle from a shell with brown spots. The eagle has inlaid turquoise eyes, two turquoise stones on its chest, and its open wing with crushed turquoise inside. It stands on a chrysocolla base with is signed on the bottom.
Size: 2.25" H x 1.25" diameter
The eagle is the most sacred of all the raptors since it sees the furthest and flies the highest. It is considered as a messenger to take our prayers to the Creator. In Zuni Pueblo, eagles are also the guardians of the sky world.
Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal. Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
