Beneficial Bat

Did you know that bats eat mosquitos?  That's beneficial for us...and you too!  This bat was carved from jet by Derrick Kaamasee and has inlaid turquoise eyes.  As with all of Derrick's carvings, this one is well detailed with a sweet face, feet, and veined wings.  More about bats below.

Bats are the only mammals that fly with actual wings.  They help our human family by eating insects and are also pollinators. 

Traditionally, Zuni carvings are symbolically fed cornmeal.   Each Zuni fetish comes in a box with a descriptive card and a tiny bit of corn meal to tide them over until they reach you.
