Jewelry by Mary Louise Tafoya is both very traditional and very different from anyone else's. Using the traditional Kewa Pueblo mosaic inlay method, she puts the stones and shells together in a way that seems very modern. They are their own little art pieces!
The pendant on this necklace is inlaid with turquoise shell, jet, spiny oyster shell, lapis, and gaspeite. The hand-rolled necklace includes melon shell, turquoise, serpentine, spiny oyster shell and other stones. The necklace closes with a sterling silver hook and eye clasp.

Many of the Pueblos in New Mexico took on Spanish names after colonization and are now taking back their original names. Kewa Pueblo is the traditional name of the place and the people. It was known as Santo Domingo Pueblo for many, many years.
